Imagine gathering with new and old friends, leaning into the weekly sermon, listening, learning and growing. Imagine hearing others pray for you by name and checking in with you, next week, to see how you are. Imagine laughter and connection, compassion and authenticity. Imagine those moments when with unmistakable clarity, the Holy Spirit arrives and moves throughout the gathering. There is no need to imagine, because this is Village. We are so delighted you are interested in Village. We want you to join us as we move from the crowded corners of our world into the community that is each individual village. For those new to Village, we have assembled a “Welcome to Village” guide. Its goal is to share the history and hope of Village and includes a sample guide, the covenant we follow and some thoughts about what Village is and is not. You may click here to access the guide.
As you prepare to register, we want to share with you the information that will help you select your Village. Each Village facilitator has chosen a day of the week and a time of day (mostly evening hours). In some cases facilitators have opted to open their Villages to whomever wishes to enroll. In other instances, facilitators have chosen to structure their Village around an “affinity group”, preferring to lead all male or all female, young adult or “seasoned saints” Villages. Where a facilitator has selected an affinity group it will be noted in the selection. For the first time, we are offering a Village for those who are differently abled and their caretakers. This Village takes place on Tuesdays at 3pm and is facilitated by J. Jenkins. We are also offering a Village for returning citizens. This Village takes place on Monday's at 7pm and is facilitated by Dr. R. Garret. Finally, some facilitators have chosen to share “grace notes”, brief comments about the essence of their Village or a scripture that guides their “walk” together. You will see these once your selection has been made or you can view the full list of Villages and grace notes HERE.
There are three areas of clarification we want to highlight:
1.Why do we ask for your date of birth?
We ask for this information so your Village might celebrate and share a birthday greeting with you. Additionally, we use this information for research/statistical purposes. Please note, the information about your birth year will not be shared with your Village.
2. Why do we ask if you are a member of Alfred Street?
We ask if you are a member of ASBC in order to ensure we connect members with services available to them through Discipleship Groups and other ministries. People who are not members of Alfred Street or any church, are ABSOLUTELY welcome to be a part of the heart and soul of Village.
3. Do you have to be a Christian to be a part of Village?
NO, you do not need to be a Christian to be a part of Village, however, it is important to note, Village is not an interfaith activity. We approach the discussion of the sermon from a Christian perspective and our faith in Jesus Christ is central to our dialogue. If, though, you are seeking to know more about the Jesus we love, obey, and serve you are surely welcome to join us.
We hope this information will help you choose the best Village for you. Each Village is unique, each invites you to join in and lean in. We welcome you to the fall, 2022 session of Village. Pastor Wesley and the Village Leadership Team have already begun to pray for you as you make the marvelous move from crowd to community.
