NSLC 2020 Nomination Form

The National Student Leadership Congress is an intensive 6-day leadership experience in our nation's capital for first-generation high school students from TRIO programs across the United States and territories. The 31st Annual National Student Leadership Congress will be hosted at Georgetown University from June 13 - 18, 2020 and will include: a Mock congress competition, diversity and inclusion training, interactive learning lab, Monuments tour, and a day on Capitol Hill. 
 
COE invites Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math and Science and Talent Search projects to nominate outstanding rising Juniors and Seniors (class of 2021 and 2022) to serve as delegates to COE's National Student Leadership Congress (NSLC). Please select students who are ready for a challenging and intensive learning experience. It is important that student representatives come prepared for the rigors of a program that includes full schedules, open minds, and ensures leadership growth.
 

Student EligibilityRising Juniors or Seniors (class of 2021 and 2022); must have at least a 3.0 GPA;  must be a current TRIO participant. Only 180 students will be accepted into the program. We aim to provide students from all states and American territories the opportunity to immerse themselves in a premier leadership experience; therefore, we will only accept  4 students per institution.

Student Application:

Because of high demand of student participation in NSLC. The student application link will be sent to the nominator upon the completion of this form and is to be completed by the student. Student applications must be submitted by March 1st, 2o2o. Once applications are submitted and reviewed, students and advisors will be notified by April 1st, 2020. The updated application process will include:

- Student Essay: What is an issue of concern in your neighborhood or high school? What can you do in the next year to effect change? (300 – 500 words)

- 1 Teacher recommendation

- 1 Resume

Fees and Transportation--The registration fee is $1,350, which includes housing, meals, admission fees for tours, NSLC T-shirts, and transportation while the student is in Washington, DC. Programs are responsible for providing transportation for students to Washington, DC. Students must arrive in Washington, DC, by no later than 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2020, at DCA Airport or Union Station. The registration fee is an allowable project expense (OMB Circular A-21/A-122).
